Why www.You.com Might Be Better Than Google

Morning everyone, this is Tools of AI.

The Saturday newsletter where we tell you all about the latest AI tools that you can use today.

Experimenting with AI tools is important for developing a good understanding- which is why I spend a lot of time doing it, and I hope this newsletter encourages you to do so too. Some products might not be useful individually, but in combination with each other.

You never know which 4 products you’ve tried in the past 10 days, might be really useful

Turns out, You.com thinks similarly when it comes to building a business plan.

This Google competitor launched a while back, looking to challenge Google by playing up the privacy narrative- like Duck Duck Go.

Basically their spiel was that You.com is a search engine that doesn’t snoop on you as much as Google.

But as to how they made money…that wasn’t exactly clear. However, they kept on experimenting with their product till they came to the latest iteration which you will definitely find useful.

They have integrated Chat GPT into the search engine to provide a search experience that is AI powered.

In case you’re a bit lost after the above sentence, I wrote a piece on Chat GPT-3 and how you can use it. It’s Open AI’s new Large Language Model (LLM) that is basically like an ‘Oracle’ that can answer (almost) any question you might have with (almost) decent accuracy.

The two ‘almosts’ above point to a whole lot of inaccuracy that you might get, depending on the search query- so, yes, definitely take it’s responses with a pinch of salt and verify them by your own research and knowledge.

HOWEVER- it is so easy and intuitive to get search summaries as part of the main search experience.

Eg: I googled- ‘Can A Bike Fit Inside a Car?’ and a few results came up- like they would on Google. Along with this, I also saw a Chat GPT summarized answer that gives me a pretty succinct summary, along with the source.

That means, if interested in finding out more, I could click onto that link and read further.

Here’s a snapshot to show you what I mean:

I tried a few search queries and the results are pretty much the same as what you’d get in Google Search- same type of text and video snippets, and really, no substantial difference.

All that- PLUS the AI chat bot right next to you to make things better.

Also, before I finish this post- here are two other cool things you can do with you.com:

  1. Code- ask the chatbot to write a piece of code for you.
  2. Build images- ask it to generate an image using AI based on a text prompt submitted by you. Eg: ‘A boy playing football in space’.

Anyway- that’s pretty much all for today- I would highly recommend you try out the new you.com search experience this weekend!

I hope you enjoyed this, and continue to find value in each post.

Till next week,
