What Is Chat GPT-3 and Why You Should Know About It.

You may/may not have heard- but just last week, a GROUNDBREAKING development happened in AI that got the whole tech world excited.

Some said it was “the biggest technological development since the iPhone”.

Others said that it was going to be the new platform that ends Google’s monopoly on search engines.

I am talking about a new platform called Chat GPT-3, released by Open AI. So what is Chat GPT-3?

Chat GPT-3 is an AI chatbot. In fact, it is the most powerful AI chatbot available publically. You ask it any question- from coding to copywriting and it spits out the answer.

The reason people are really excited about it, is because it is like magic. Truly.

Let me give you an example how it works:

Imagine you have to plan a trip to Morocco. You google “Places to visit in Morocco”, read a couple articles, make up your mind, and decide. All in all- this takes you round ~20-30 mins, say.

Now imagine if you could get the same information in 5 minutes? That’s what Chat GPT does. And that’s just one of it’s many use cases.

That’s why I said, it’s like magic. I took it’s help to plan the Morocco trip and this is how it fared. As you can see, it even suggested an itinerary!

..and it went on and on and suggested a complete 6 day-trip to Morocco!

And just like me- a lot many other people have found so many neat use cases for this.

Like this person who asked it a coding interview question- which it solved abruptly:

Other people have been using it for helping their creativity oriented tasks such as copywriting, branding, etc.

It writes code, helps people understand software even, drafts poems, creates copy at the level of a mediocre human writer currently- but that has been more than enough to send shivers throughout multiple industries- software engineering and copywriters are two obvious areas but there are going to be so many others who will get a huge chunk of their tasks automated by GPT-3.

Is Chat GPT-3 Really That Perfect? Does It Give Correct Responses?

Not by a long shot.

The AI is clever at drawing upon a huge source of information and combining it in insightful ways (it’s data is sourced from the internet -vintage Feb 2021).

However, since it doesn’t truly understand what it’s saying, it can say blatantly wrong things, output incorrect code, the likes- so you have to double check whatever it says.

That being said though, even in it’s current form-it definitely is an exciting new innovation that is ALREADY helping people do so much:

  • Kids have started using it for their homework
  • Students/Engineers for help with coding
  • Data Analytics- It provides you numerical data, formats it according to how you want- without using R or python!
  • Copywriters are already using multiple tools that are built on top of GPT-3 to write better copy, faster.

So if you were to start using it- take it as a new tool that is still being refined but has plenty to offer.

Is Chat GPT-3 Safe To Use?

With regards to data and privacy, there aren’t a lot of concerns with Chat GPT right NOW, because it is a very rudimentary tool at this stage, if you think about it’s final form. It doesn’t store any personalized data on you, just has enough memory to remember the data being fed to it in a particular chat thread, which goes away if you refresh the page.

No cookie data being stored, or metadata being farmed out to companies YET.

Google Vs Chat GPT-3 : How Will Chat GPT-3 Evolve?

The most obvious thing that everyone is thinking of is that this will likely become a big competitor to Google Search because it reduces the friction of information gathering on the internet drastically.

But how though? There is a lot of speculation on this.

I personally see Chat GPT-3 becoming a personal AI assistant for the masses. You input any question and simply get the answer, tailored to what will work for you. This requires sophisticated machine learning, in order to give accurate and quick answers to their questions that are personalized for each human being.

There is the chicken and egg problem here though- if humans aren’t visiting websites to access information, then what incentives do site owners have to create content for the internet?

How will websites make money without being able to sell ads, products or services to their visitors?

To be able to truly surpass Google, I see Open AI evolving some new kind of business model that allows websites to make money from this- and it has to be significantly better than the current way of doing things.

They also need to find a way to monetize their platform. How will Chat GPT-3 or whatever the Google Competitor product might be called- make money?

They’ll need to experiment a lot with this. I am not sure myself what a potential solution to this might be.

The other scenario is- Chat GPT and Google keep on co-existing and become complementary to each other. I think this is much less likely though.

How To Access Chat GPT-3

Just go to Open AI, sign up using your email id and phone number and you’re good to go. Once you’re logged in, this is the interface you’ll see:

Just type in your query in the little chat box below and start playing with it! It remembers what you’ve said previously and can build on your data in it’s following answers.

If you haven’t done so already, I encourage you to try out the website today.
